Testimonial 1 All Missions 13 Turns[]

Synopsis: Carefully manage buffs, debuffs, re-raises, and thresholds, then damage when conditions are perfect. (No AoE re-raise)

Starting Group

  • Veritas of the Dark (DW with Crimson Saber, Stone Killer, ~900 ATK)
  • Orlandeau (DW Hoemaru, ~900 ATK)
  • Yuna (Holy Wand DC)
  • BS Sakura (~1025 MAG)
  • Balthier (TDH Machine Gun, Undead and Stone Killer, ~1250 ATK)

Reserve Group

  • Mystea (80% Holy resist, eSPR)
  • Ayaka (eSPR)
  • HT Lid
  • Warrior of Light (100% evade, Moogle Plushie, Golem)
  • MS Nichol

PHASE 1

  • You start with a dead party member, and this phase is about covering magic damage and provoke evading single target physical while setting up phase 2.
  • Swap in Mystea, WoL, Ayaka, and HT Lid, as we need them alive turn one. Bring back whoever died before the battle starts.
  • Debuff Magic with HT Lid, and keep Provoke up on WoL and Triletia's Wall up on Mystea at all times.
  • Debuff Lightning resistance with BS Sakura (3 turns 50%) or better yet Balthier (5 turns 60%)
  • This is the time to take care of the elemental mission with Mystea and WoL on turns they don't need to re-apply their cover/provoke. My WoL build had Wing Edges for evade so he could just attack for the wind requirement. Mystea covers Ice by equipping Arc Arcana, and WoL casts stone. BS Sakura covers the Lightning.
  • Stack Quick Final Thunder to damage Elnath to phase 2 in 3-4 turns
  • Keep re-raise active on everyone with Ayaka and Yuna, even your units going to reserve so they will come out with it later.
  • Before moving to phase 2, apply ATK and MAG debuff with HT Lid, and Imperil Fire with Balthier

PHASE 2

  • If you setup well for the threshold you shouldn't have anyone die. This phase is all about physical cover, chain damage, and of course, setup for phase 3.
  • Swap in MS Nichol, VoD, and Orlandau. You don't need Mystea this phase, as WoL should physical cover the damage with Light is With Us.
  • Have MS Nichol Lone Stance both VoD and Orlandeau. With the fire imperil you setup in phase 1, they can spark elemental chain down to about 42% health in one turn.
  • HERE IS WHERE WE SPEND ABOUT 3 TURNS TO SETUP PHASE 3!
    • Put re-raise and damage mitigation on VoD and Old man, then sideline them. Yuna with DC is here just to help spread around the re-raises as needed.
    • Plan to go through the threshold with Mystea, WoL, HT LID (optional), Ayaka, and Balthier, so get Clear Veil, Re-raise, damage mitigation, and water resistance on all of them possible (Balthier just needs re-raise). Damage mitigation and water resistance supplied by Iceberg Stance and Impregnable stance.
    • Re-apply ATK and MAG debuff before and on threshold turn.
    • When ready cross the threshold with a single Elemental Shot - Fire from Balthier to re-apply the fire imperil till the end of the fight.

PHASE 3

  • Ouch! Some people died, but that's okay. Re-raise brought them all back, right? HT Lid and Ayaka survived intact for me.
  • The magic damage in Phase 3 is out of control, even with Lid's huge magic debuff people are going to die every turn. It's all about re-raise, and chaining fire damage now.
  • Get rid of WoL, his job is done. Lid has also earned her place on the bench. Mystea keeps up her wall. Bring in MS Nichol, VoD, and Old Man. Put up water resist and damage mitigation with MS Nichol, re-raise with Ayaka, and pound his face with your still buffed chainers. This drops him to around 22%.
  • More people die and come back. Bring in Yuna in place of Nichol and get re-raise on everyone again. The chainers are no longer buffed but we couldn't kill him outright anyway, so chain one more time to lower the HP for the final turn.
  • Re-raise saves the day again! All we need is MS Nichol, Balthier, Orlandeau, and VoD. Buff everyone's attack with Nichol, then chain with VoD and Orlandeau, and finish with Balthier's Limit Burst (I never even had to try to fill this in the 3 turns Balthier was in play) to complete the last mission!

Here's the spreadsheet i use that tracks buffs/debuffs per turn:

Testimonial 2 - Geryth[]

This is using my tried and true turtle stance for consistency using NO evade tank and NO LM Fina/Ayaka reraise with all missions accomplished. Without an evade tank and without a top tier healer, our other units have to be top notch. Here's the main team:

  • Warrior of Light - He needs to be beefy! He's not evade tanking so he's going to need some TMR's and high HP and DEF. He's also taking some magic damage so he needs some SPR too. Mine had 10917 HP, 548 DEF, and 337 SPR. He will seem way over tuned during phase 1 but you'll be tightening your sphincter in phase 2, but he should survive. I put Crag Splitter on him so on an off turn he can get the earth damage out of the way. One last requirement is to put Paralyze resistance on him - I used Ribbon.
  • Silvia - What? Silvia? What does she have to offer in this fight? One answer - Cover Shield which offers AoE 3 turn break resistance. We're using MS Nichol where that's simply convenient for us, but it's necessary for phase 2 to prevent us from eating 60% breaks. We're equipping Silvia with utility so she's performing two other very important roles - Provoke Tank and AoE physical mitigation with Cowered Courage. Since she's the provoke tank she also needs death protection, so a lot of her gear is pretty locked. Lastly, she needs some paralyze resistance too. So once you put Golem + Moogle Plushie + Cowered Courage + Safety Bit + Paralyze resistance on her, finish her out with HP and SPR since the only damage she'll be taking is magic damage. Mine had 4385 HP, 373 DEF, and 384 SPR. She did perfectly fine.
    • Since we can make anyone a provoke tank and a physical damage mitigation monkey, any other unit offering AoE break resistance can work here except for Shylt. WoL is AoE covering and Shylt has a chance to cover magic damage. AoE holy magic damage comes first every turn so he's near guaranteed to cover someone, rendering your WoL useless and you'll wipe. Let my loss of 50 NRG be a warning to you not to try this strategy using Shylt for AoE break protection.
  • MS Nichol - quite simple. He offers +30% all damage mitigation, +70% light resistance, and since we have break resistance he can use his Super Man stance (Fortune Stance + Courageous Stance) for infinite sustain. Without LM Fina to carry us, we need some other CG unit to carry us. Mine had 4437 HP, 182 DEF, 355 SPR, and 552 MP. He only needs to survive some AoE magic attacks and he did fine with that.
  • Eiko - Simply to heal and push esper gauge and to summon 3 star Shiva at the end for ice damage requirement and to cap a chain for the kill. Mine had 4863 HP, 291 DEF, and 639 SPR. She ate the AoE magic attacks no problem. You can swap her out for Garnet, the only reason I'm using Eiko is simply because I don't have a Garnet leveled up. I advise speccing Shiva into EVO boost and adding a couple +EVO magic materia for maximum damage. With Shiva specced into EVO boost plus the -100% ice imperil Tegmine naturally has, you'll do more damage with her than Bahamut.
  • Barbariccia - A strong magic damage dealer for phase 1. Can be anyone, they only need to be able to survive phase 1 holy magic attacks. Barb served as my wind attack requirement for the mission. 4863 HP, 936 MAG, 282 SPR and she did just fine. Just make sure to equip Carbuncle for +50% light resist to counter her innate -50% light resist. She took the AoE holy attacks no problem.
  • Divine Soleil - Literally useless to me when I did it. The plan was to pull Eiko out (she can't die if she's not on the field) and put Divine Soleil in to cast Ankh on Ex. Aileen so that Ex. Aileen would be alive for the transition into phase 3 for the final 39%-0% push. To my surprise everyone survived the 39% threshold attacks except WoL, so her presence did nothing, but I still recommend it for the insurance (JUST in case something goes screwy so Ex. Aileen and Eiko are alive for the final push).
  • Explorer Aileen - She serves a couple important functions but she can be replaced. Firstly, she's my turn 1 ATK/MAG breaker. Secondly, she's my phase 2/3 DPS. And lastly, she's the limit break finisher for the mission. I think her 50% ATK/MAG break is important for phase 2, WoL's 45% works for phase 1 but would be pushing it for phase 2. I equipped her TDH Fixed Dice build and she sat at 784 ATK, 5634 HP, and 203 SPR. She also needs paralyze resistance. She survived AoE magic attacks just fine.
  • Lila / Agrias / Orlandeau - chainers for the last push. I equipped each of them with lightning element weapons for element chaining and to satisfy the lightning damage mission requirement (Thunder Spear, Tonitrus, and Tonitrus respectively). With the three chainers + Ex Aileen LB + Eiko Shiva summon they more than got the job done, so their stats don't need to be too crazy, but here's my stats on each: Lila at 776 SPR, Agrias 774 ATK, and Orlandeau at 1038 ATK - all three DW. It was a very comfortable kill.

Initial Party - So there's the turn 1 preemptive death to deal with. Since Silvia has 30% provoke with Moogle Shield and death protection definitely put her in the initial party. For the others put in your 3 damage chainers and Divine Soleil. Now what happens is the 30% chance triggers onto Silvia and everything is peachy! Or we'll deal with worst case scenario and assume someone eats a Death. All that happens is we lose a turn of damage, no biggy, so here's our first few turns assuming bad RNG where a unit takes the death:

  1. Turn 1
    1. Swap to set your team to be WoL, Silvia, Ex Aileen, MS Nichol, and dead unit
    2. WoL = Light is With Us
    3. Silvia = Provoke
    4. Ex Aileen = Underhanded Trick (50% ATK/MAG break)
    5. MS Nichol = Duality Stance + Impregnable Stance (light resist and damage mitigation)
  2. Turn 2
    1. Swap Ex Aileen for Eiko
    2. WoL = 45% ATK/MAG Break so he's now set into a rotation
    3. Eiko = Raise + Curaga
    4. Silvia = Primal Instinct
    5. MS Nichol = Duality Stance + Impregnable Stance (again for revived unit to safely take AoE light attack)
  3. Turn 3
    1. Swap revived unit for Barbariccia (unless it WAS barb!)
    2. Silvia = Cover Shield
    3. WoL = Auto attack to deal earth damage
    4. Eiko = Heal
    5. MS Nichol = Duality Stance + Impregnable Stance (again for Barbariccia to safely take AoE light attack)
    6. Barbariccia = Tornado + Aeroja
  4. Turn 4 - you are in rotation now until the 59% threshold, this is super easy sustain.
    1. MS Nichol finally can use Fortune Stance + Courageous Stance. You must use MS Nichol after Silvia each turn to make sure you don't accidentally break your own team. From here he's on rotation between Duality Stance + Impregnable Stance and Fortune Stance + Courageous Stance
    2. WoL - He's in a rotation of Light is With Us and Arms Eraser and then an off turn.
    3. Silvia - A strict three turn rotation of Provoke, Primal Instinct, and Cover Shield
    4. Eiko - MS Nichol actually handles all the healing in this so she's literally just here to push the esper gauge to full. Once that is done she has nothing else to do this phase. If she needs to help heal you might be in trouble for phase 2.
    5. Barbariccia - Spams Aeroja and adds in a Tornado when she needs to reapply wind imperil. At 936 MAG mine was doing about 6% damage each turn, which was plenty, and I crossed into phase 2 (59%) at turn 14 and finished the fight at turn 23 (as it regards to the 30 turn limit on the mission).

Phase 2 - 59% threshold reached.

  1. Crossing the threshold isn't so bad, but just in case you can time crossing the threshold on WoL's off turn so he can defend. You should be crossing this threshold around turn 12-15. You'll struggle to finish in 30 turns if you take much more than that. Everyone else should be buffed up and take the Counter Zapper or Megyornia without issue.
  2. This where paralyze resistance matters. Any units to stick around for phase 2 needs to have paralyze resistance.
  3. You'll keep doing the same rotations basically from phase 1 into phase 2, with a few adjustments. The main difference is you are swapping Barbariccia for Ex Aileen because Tegmine changes from being physical immune to magical immune.
  4. WoL is going to soak up a lot of AoE physical attacks. Everyone else is going to take AoE magical damage but it shouldn't kill anyone as long as you have 30% damage mitigation up.
  5. Ex Aileen - I prefer to swap breaking duty back to her because that 5% can matter here, and it gives WoL two off turns to defend on. With my WoL on turns he didn't defend he was punished all the way down to 2k HP at times. Ouch! Otherwise just run Piledriver Finish since it builds her LB and has 50% DEF ignore.
  6. MS Nichol no longer needs to keep Light resistance in his rotation, but he still needs to keep up Impregnable, Fortune, and Courageous stances.
  7. Eiko had little to do in phase 1, but she definitely needs to pile on her biggest heals she can muster in this phase. With Crypto Performance + MS Nichol's Fortune Stance I was just able to heal WoL back to full each turn.
  8. Silvia doesn't change anything at all from phase 1 to phase 2. Provoke, Primal Instinct, Cover Shield. It's this phase where her cover shield isn't just to make MS Nichol better for us, it's preventing us from taking 60% ATK/MAG/DEF/SPR breaks. WoL cannot survive with a 60% DEF break, and that's why we brought Silvia here.
  9. It took my Explorer Aileen somewhere around 10 turns to get me from 59% - 39%.
  10. In the turn before crossing the threshold I swapped Eiko for Divine Soleil and had her cast her reraise on Ex Aileen, and I made WoL defend. Reraise turned out not to be needed and no one died except WoL, but the insurance is nice to have I guess.
  11. Crossing into the 39% threshold will hit your team with an AoE magic attack, a lot of AoE physical attacks, and Chaos Rampage which is a 10x AoE Hybrid attack. Hybrid attacks are covered by physical covers so assuming WoL survived the first slew of attacks (he should) he'll protect the team from this. It's fine that he dies, we don't need him anymore. WoL takes so much punishment this fight, he deserves a medal.

Phase 3 - For reference my team got here on turn 23 to meet the 30 turns mission.

  • Here's the easy part. Put in your damage team and run your gambit of chaining + Shiva + Ex Aileen LB. This should get the kill in pretty comfortably with 3 chainers and two cappers, and it finishes out the ice and lightning damage and LB kill requirements for the missions.

Good luck!
