A subspecies of phorusracos. The males have brilliant pink plumage that can be seen from afar in order to appeal to the opposing sex. While it cannot fly, this bird is swift, and when a male spots a female specimen, it dashes for her at top speed. If there are no other males about, it will launch into its courting ritual at once. But if more than one male should gather, they will do battle, flitting about as they kick out at one another with their feet. Their fluorescent plumage reflects the sun's light, glinting and shining, which is how it got its name.
