Sentinel functionality[]

I think this needs some more investigation since I am rocking a lvl 80 cecil and he tanks fairly rarely and tanks very often right after i set him to guard. maybe the wording is more accurate and intentional than it seemed also to be fair given something called 'guard' existing int he game and then using the term on an ability without any connection between the two makes little sense and would be a HUGE oversight. I have the feeling that u in fact have to set ur cecil to guard to get the extra 30%. If there is hard evidence to the contrary please provide it. ManuS (talk) 17:47, 31 August 2016 (EDT)

This is the current state of testing on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFBraveExvius/comments/4yacdr/sentinel_and_wol_how_sentinel_works/

making it work much closer to the having to guard interpretation than it indicates in the wiki currently. It seems like u can use green/white magic abilities and most special abilities but no auto attacks or physical damage attacks or stealing type abilities. so u basically have to do more passive things as it seems for sentinel to trigger but not actually 'guard' at least for now. it is also far from clear or proven whether u basically just take the same damage as if u were guarding when it triggers or if u get some kind of SPR/DEF buff as currently stated on here. it more likely is some form of flat damage reduction like during 'Guard' since a buff to SPR/DEF should be visible when holding the unit like other buffs or shown when applied during the action (there is nothing that indicates a buff tot he units stats before or during the action). Edit: also apparently if cecil jumps in front of someone it is a 'cover' trigger. For a sentinel trigger he stays in place and simply takes the damage for the person where he stands (it gets sort of redirected to him). ManuS (talk) 18:29, 31 August 2016 (EDT)

Edit: I just figured out that the stepping in front of an ally still happens with sentinel too but only for single target physical stuff. for AoE the sentinel user remains in place and takes the damage twice (since it is basically non-directional i guess). so there is no distinction in terms of animation between sentinel and cover. it would be interesting to know if cover works as described int eh tooltip only on physical attacks or is simply a smaller sentinel. as a long time MTG player i HATE inconsistently and poorly worded descriptions ... Just did the replace text, but it might take a while for it to go through. Maybe later change to "and reduce physical and magical damage taken (50%)" to be in the same line as Defend's description? But just though about it afterwards so better wait for the first change to take effect. --Umuzu (talk) 11:43, 25 September 2016 (EDT)

Passive ability Tablet of Ruin, equippable by Elza, is in the table twice, once above Chilling Aura and once below Shikkoku. --PotentPortentPorter (talk) 17:09, 11 November 2016 (EST)
